How a bed is put together: frame, base, lift mechanism
The bed looks simple until you start reading the specs. We analyze them in rows.
There are several lines in the bed specifications, and almost every one means more than what the name suggests. Let's analyze them one by one - it's faster than comparing models at random.
Sleeping place ≠ overall size
The most expensive mistake when choosing. "Bed 160×200" is a mattress. The bed itself is wider and longer by the thickness of the frame, which is usually 8-15 cm on each side.
Therefore, there are two separate lines in the characteristics: "Sleeping place" and "Overall size". You should measure the room according to the second, and buy the mattress according to the first. Plus at least 60 cm of passage on the side from which you get up.
Frame and tsargi
Tsarga is the side wall of the bed, the same one against which the knee hits. Its thickness is immediately visible upon inspection and it determines how rigidly the entire structure is held: a thin tsarga on a wide bed works as a lever.
Corner joints of the frame are the second place to look. It is they who take the load when they sit on the bed from the edge, and not lie down in the center.
Base: lamellae, not a solid shield
The orthopedic base is bent wooden slats in holders. They spring under the weight and work with the mattress, not against it.
A solid shield under the mattress is worse for two reasons: it does not absorb anything and does not ventilate, so the mattress does not dry out from below. If the base is solid, the mattress has to be lifted regularly.
Lift mechanism
The gas lift lifts the base together with the mattress and opens the box to the entire bed area. In the characteristics, this is a separate line - the mechanism is not in every model.
Gas lifts are designed for tens of thousands of cycles, so daily use is normal for them. The only thing that should not be done is to help the mechanism with your hands during the reverse course: it is designed for a smooth descent under its own weight.
Upholstery and headboard
Upholstery is indicated in the characteristics of each model. The height of the headboard is important if you read or watch something in bed sitting up: a low headboard in this position does not support anything.
The mattress for the bed is selected separately - so the stiffness is chosen for you, and you do not get it in a set with something that suits you only half.
