How to look after a sofa: weekly, each season, and the moment of a spill
The sofa does not deteriorate from one stain, but from the way it was removed.
Most sofas look old not because they have worn out, but because they have not been properly cleaned. Below are what works for any upholstery and what to ask about yours.
Weekly: vacuum cleaner
The dust in the fabric works like an abrasive: every time you sit down, the particles rub against the fibers from the inside. That is why an uncleaned sofa is wiped faster than a cleaned one, even if people sit on it the same way.
Nozzle with a soft brush, medium power. Seams and joints - that's where dust collects the most.
Once a season: flip and fold
Seat cushions should be changed and turned over if the design allows it. Then the load is distributed, and the favorite place does not sag before the rest.
At the same time, you should move the sofa away from the wall and vacuum under it — and at the same time check whether there is any play in the joints.
Stain: soak, do not rub
Friction drives the contamination deeper into the fiber and washes the stain over a larger area. It is correct to apply a dry, light-colored napkin and blot, changing the napkin, until it stops being stained.
It is necessary to move from the edge of the spot to the center, and not vice versa - otherwise, a halo will appear, which will then be seen better than the spot itself.
