How to work out a sofa’s width yourself
The width of the sofa is not an arbitrary number. It consists of modules, and you can calculate it on paper.
When widths 190, 210, 230 are listed in the catalog, it seems that the manufacturer chose them at random. In fact, this is arithmetic, and knowing it, you can tell the manager the right number yourself, and not go through the models.
Two values that make up everything
- —The seat module is 95 cm. This is the standard of the line, and the length is obtained from such modules
- —Armrest - from 10 to 20 cm depending on the model, and they can be two, one or none
How does it count?
Two modules and two narrow armrests are 95 + 95 + 10 + 10, that is, 210 cm. The same two modules with wide armrests are 95 + 95 + 20 + 20 = 230 cm. Remove one armrest - minus its width.
This is why the widths are in steps, and not in any number: a step is an armrest, and a jump is a whole module. If there is exactly 20 cm between two adjacent widths in the catalog, you have just looked at the difference in two armrests.
The rest of the dimensions in the line are the same
- —The depth with the back is 100 cm
- —The depth in folded form without a back is 75 cm
- —Seat height — 43 cm
- —The height of the sofa is 75 cm
What to do with it next
Measure the niche, subtract 5–10 cm to spare and see what combination of modules fit into it. If none of them match exactly, this is exactly the case when the size is agreed before starting work: it is the actual production, not the warehouse.
