Table and chairs: how to match them to each other
The table and chairs are almost always bought separately. Therefore, they almost always do not suit each other.
A dining group is not a table and chairs, but three numbers between them. If at least one thing is not right, it is uncomfortable at the table, and no amount of beauty can fix it.
The first number: 75 minus 45
The standard height of the worktop is 75 cm, and a seat of about 45 cm is required under it. Then there is room for the knees between the thigh and the bottom of the worktop, and the elbows rest on the table without raised shoulders.
Both heights are in the specs. If the tabletop is thicker than usual - and ceramic ones are massive - measure to the BOTTOM of the tabletop, because that's where the knees will go.
The second number: 60 cm per person
This is the perimeter of the table that one person needs to eat without bumping elbows. For round, this means: diameter 100 cm — four places, 120 cm — five, 140 cm — six.
You can physically put more chairs. They will not sit comfortably, and this is immediately noticeable on the festive table.
The third number: 70 cm of passage
From the edge of the table to the nearest wall or furniture. This is a chair plus a passage behind it when someone is sitting on it.
For a folding table, count from the length IN UNFOLDED form - it stands on a separate line in the characteristics. Otherwise, there will be nowhere to set the table just when the guests arrive.
About the combination of materials
Chairs do not have to repeat the material of the table - on the contrary, a complete match often looks worse than a contrast. Another rule works: something must be repeated. The color of the chair frame and table legs, or the shade of the wood, or the line of the shape.
The color of the frame stands in a separate line in the characteristics of the chair - it is convenient to choose it.
