A round table has no corners to catch on — its main advantage in a kitchen where a metre is left between the table and the units, and in a home with children. It is also easier to talk across: everyone can see everyone, and there is no head of the table.
The selection holds both extending and one-piece models. The diameter, the top material and the length when extended are stated in each table’s specifications.
Questions and answers
- How many people does a round table seat?
- The rule of thumb is 60 cm of perimeter per person. A table 100 cm across seats four, 120 cm five, 140 cm six. An extending model adds two more, but once extended it is no longer round: the mechanism makes it oval.
- Ceramic or tempered glass?
- Ceramic takes a hot pan and does not scratch under a knife, but it is heavier and dearer. Tempered glass is lighter, cheaper and easy to clean, though fingerprints show on it. Neither minds moisture, unlike laminated board at the joints.
